Artist Sally Posner’s Conception of the re-built Bridge #9 on the Bizz Johnson Trail

Bridging the Gap to our Past and our Future

The Story of Bridge #9

The historic trestle at bridge #9 on the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail is one of the most notable along the rail trail.  The 270 foot-long trestle crossed the Susan River at a height of 70 feet, and was one of the most dramatic landmarks along the route.  This structure was heavily damaged by wildfire in 2000 and is no longer useable.  Rebuilding this bridge is a high priority for the Land Trust and for the users of the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail.

How you can help

You can contribute to the LLTT endowment program for individual and corporate sponsorship of  trail improvements and maintenance.  We hope this program will attract matching grants. Restoring the railroad trestle at Bridge #9 could demonstrate the viability of an endowment program that would benefit other regional trails projects.
